Biography
John Brannon - chant Graham MacCulloch - bass Rob MacCulloch - guitar Chris "OP" Moore - drums
A mythical group of the US hardcore scene, Negative Approach was born in Detroit in 1981 around John Brannon and Rob MacCulloch. Peter Zelewski (bass) and Zuheir (battery) complete the troupe. Very quickly, the latter two were replaced by Graham MacCulloch and Chris "OP" Moore respectively. Under this training, Negative Approach performs its first concert in the garage of Tod Swalla, drummer of Necros , another legendary combo of Motor City. In the wake is recorded the first demo, most of which will also appear on Touch & Go Records' Process of Elimination compilation alongside Necros, Meatmen, Toxic Reason. The band then began a promotion tour of only three dates that led him to play in Boston, New York and Washington DC. In 1982, Negative Approach released its first eponymous album which will be followed a year later by the first real album, Tied Down . The band split in the same year during the promotional tour.
In 1992, the Touch & Go Records label reissues the complete discography of Negative Approach on a single album entitled Total Recall . A few years later, Reptilian will strip the band's demos and release them all under the title Ready To Fight: Demo, Live & Unreleased 1981-83 .
After playing in several bands including Easy Action and Laughing Hyenas, John Brannon reformed Negative Approach in 2006.
