Neurosis

The long history of Neurosis began in 1985. The band then evolved into a hardcore/crust punk record, similar to many Californian bands at that time with its first two albums: Pain Of Mind and The Word As Law in 1988 and 1989. However, they quickly take a much more experimental and, above all, more obscure course. First attracted by themes such as anarchy or rebellion proper to the hardcore scene, Neurosis later reveals a real fascination for the dark sides of mythology and religion. Quickly the band tries to go further than the hardcore punk crusty from its beginnings, to complicate its game while maintaining the dark and violent background. The album of the transition was without context Souls At Zero in 1992. This opus, linking aggressiveness, heavy doomsqueness and industrial atmospheres is the birth and essence of the style that Neurosis will then develop. Over time, the group worked to obscure compositions through the development of macabre and obscure atmospheric atmospheres. Albums such as Enemy Of The Sun or Through Silver In Blood published in 1993 and 1996 illustrate this trend perfectly. Little by little, Neurosis abandons its hardcore side in favour of heavier and more cerebral music perspiring despair. Thus in 1999, Times Of Grace marked a turning point in the band's discography and became an album delivering its true potential to the gout account and to the end of many listening. A Sun That Never Sets that was released in 2001 continues in this direction. In 2003, the band collaborated with female artist Jarboe interview at a concert. This encounter generates the album Neurosis&Jarboe, which reveals Neurosis under a new face. The themes addressed are always as dark, and the lyrics as well as the music are wonderfully developing the dark faces of the human psyche. However, heaviness fades and leaves much room for atmospheres. In 2004, Eye Of Every Storm showed a little more the hidden face of Neurosis seen through the collaboration with Jarboe. In 2007, the Americans delivered Given To The Rising, which still develops this mixture of dark, but aerial atmospheres. Three years later, a live recorded at the 2007 edition of the Roadburn was released at their label, Neurot Recordings.
