Back in 1999-2000, when the band was founded at NYC, from the idea of Mike Law (Eulcid ) and Stephen Brodsky ( Cave In , Kid Kilowatt ), the duo recorded a first eponymous EP in 2002. The critics were unanimous, which did not prevent the group from 'disappearing' from the music scene for almost three years. However, the projects of both members are numerous and therefore do not leave them without labor. Time passed and NIS finally entered the studio in 2004, to record a first long-duration opus, You Are Awake Or Asleep, which once again attracted praise from the public and the press. The album was released on 25 January 2005 by Magic Bullet Records (On Fire , Cave In , Doomriders , ...) which put " Create Your Own Emergency "free download, while for their part, the Germans of Trans Solar Records ( Monochrome , The (International) Noise Conspiracy , Tokyo Sex Destruction , ...) release the album in Europe and decide to leave "The Waiting " free to listen. This is evidence of the brilliance of You Are Awake Or Asleep; Most of the instruments are played by the two co-founders, but the latter nevertheless allow themselves to invite long-time friends such as Derek Kerswell to the drums, but also Kurt Ballou ( Converge , A Day In Black And White , Codeseven , Isis ,...). It is therefore impatient that the expectation for the release of the group's second effort is made. The line-up (see above) has enriched itself with new limbs, allowing the friend Brodsky gradually to move away from his creation to completely abandon it (cf. line-up MySpace), and Mike alone at the bar as the photo-promo proves. This does not prevent The World Is Bright And Lonely from finding its place in the US ferries on August 28, 2007, and on September 03 of the same year in Europe, via Exotic Fever Records ( Del Cielo , Des Ark ,...).
