Biography

Tony Sly (chant/guitar) and Rory Koff (battery) formed No Use For A Name in 1987 in Sunnyvale, California. They quickly recruited Steve Papoutis to bass and under this line up in trio that they released Incognito in 1991 on the New Red Archives label. For Don't miss the train, their next album, they 'engage' a rhythmic guitarist, Chris Dodge. But Chris left the band and was replaced by Robin Pfefer on The daily grind , No Use's first album on Fat Wreck Chords. As the albums progressed, their punk rock became more and more melodic and lLeche Con Carne! which came out in 1995 marks a decisive turning point in this direction. With a new guitarist (Ed Gregor makes his entry into the band), No Use is a more personal style marked by a sustained rhythm and unstoppable catchy melodies. The combo is a great success and Making Friends , which continues in this beautiful launch confirms the talent of the four and installs it at the same time in the elite punk rock. For this album, No Use was surrounded by Chris Shiflett who also became the band's 4th guitarist by replacing Ed and a new bassist: Matt Riddle. More Betterness , the group's 6th opus comes out in October '99 and addresses a more emotional, melancholy and slower side. At the same time, Chris left the band to join the Foo Fighters and Dave Nessie (ex Suicidal Tendencies / Infectious Grooves) took his place in disaster in the middle of a tour.
In 2001 the band released a live album (in Fat Wreck's Live In A Dive series) and followed the following year by Hard Rock Bottom, a mix of Making Friends and More Betterness. 2005 saw the arrival of Keep Them Confused, an album much awaited by the fans (3 years since the last album) but which will disappoint more than one, the tempo having slowed down considerably and the band getting bogged down in a flat and redundant style.
A best-of named "All The Best Songs" was released in 2007, including songs from the band's entire discography, from the first album to Keep Them Confused. The latest album is The Feel Good Record Of The Year released in early 2008 with a new production (exit Ryan Greene, welcome Blasting Room), but still at Fat Wreck.
