Noir Desir
Biography
It all started in 1981 in Bordeaux, Bertrand Cantat met at the Lycée Serge Teyssot-Gay. Then from thread to needle, they meet Denis Barthe with whom they mount a group that will constantly change name, Psychoz, Station Désir, Black Desires to finally officially opt for Black Desire. Frédéric Vidalenc (replaced by Jean Paul Roy in 1996) joined them and in 1987 released their first album Where do you want to watch? Then everything goes on: Please return the soul (to whom it belongs), Cement under the plains, Tostaky, 666.667 club. At this stage of his career, Noir Désir is the spearhead of the entire French rock scene, incensed, and almost venerated, respected for his commitment, admired for his live performances. However, it will take five years for the quartet to return, when the compilations One Trip One Noise and En Route pour la Joye . continue to keep the flame alive to the public. Faces and Figures finally appeared in 2001 and presented the Bordeaux formation in a new, dark and soothing light, making the part beautiful to the texts - yet still an important part of his music. The success is again at the rendezvous, coming to demonstrate at least as much the immense expectations that a new album of Noir Désir can raise as its ability to (re)conquer a faithful and ever wider audience. This record will however be the last of the group, whose activities are suspended from July 2003 to the discovery of the body of Marie Trintignant, then companion of Bertrand Cantat, fallen under the blows of his companion in the couple's hotel room in Vilnius (Lithuania) during a violent argument on the background of alcohol. Sentenced to eight years in prison by the Lithuanian courts, Bertrand Cantat will be transferred to a prison in the vicinity of Toulouse the following year to serve the rest of his sentence, then will be granted parole for good conduct in 2007, while, during this time, the members of Black Désir , still in retreat concerning the drama, were involved in their other projects (Interzone , Free Zone , The Hyènes , various collaborations ...). It is in the utmost discretion that Noir Désir will return to work and will release in 2008 two titles left for free download on the group's official website. An album originally planned for the end of 2009 is then in the starting-blocks. He will never see the light: the separation of Noir Désir was formalized by Denis Barthe on November 29, 2010 following the departure of Serge Teyssot-Gay, one of the motors of the composition of the band since the beginning, for musical, human and emotional disagreements with Bertrand Cantat.
