Biography

Nortt is a Danish one man band as mysterious as it is fascinating, and is considered one of the best formations of the current Funeral Doom scene. Mixing Funeral Doom and Black Metal while using its own imagery, Nortt created a personal universe around a unique concept, defining its music as "Pure Depressive Black Funeral Doom Metal" with the recurring theme of dying and disappearing into darkness. Nortt came out of the shadows in autumn 1995. Four years are needed to develop what will become an original concept based on nihilistic philosophy and misanthropy, expressed through a kind of Funeral Doom with strong Black Metal accents. This took shape with a demo-tape trilogy, Nattetale in 1997, Døden... in 1998 and Graven at the end of 1999. Nortt then released an EP in 2002 with the Germans of Sombre Records, entitled Hedengang . The following year, Possession Productions released a cassette, Mournful Monuments 1998-2002 , compilation of former recordings. That same year, Nortt released his first real album, Gudsforladt , once again at Sombre Productions. His compatriots from Diehard Bloodline will release the album in 2004 with a bonus new track, Evig Hvile . Also in 2004, the Swedes of Total Holocaust Records contributed to Nortt's emergence by releasing Graven as a CD and also and especially by allowing him to record a split with the one man band of Suicidal Black Xasthur. Nortt will use tracks present on this disk on the Hedengang EP. Note that this split has two covers, that of the EP and another of Xasthur. Southern Lord Records will be released the following year. It was in 2006 that Nortt released his latest album, Ligfærd . A deal was signed soon afterwards by the Italians of Avantgarde Music, and an album was announced for 2007.
