Biography

Obituary is one of the founders of the world's death metal scene alongside Death, Morbid Angel and Deicide. Obituary is from Florida, death metal land. Formed in 1984 under the name of Executioner then Xecutioner before taking the name Obituary in 1988, the band began to play music strongly influenced by bands like Venom and Celtic Frost before turning to death metal by listening to bands like Possessed . Unlike his death or Morbid Angel peers, Obituary plays a heavy death, very influenced by thrash, and with a scratched song, far from a Chris Barnes (Cannibal Corpse) or a Glen Benton (Deicide). This voice will become the trademark of the group. In 1989 Obituary's mythical album, Slowly We Rot , was released, laying the foundation of the Obituary style: huge solos, abrasive voices that seem to yell at yahurt, thrashing drums and mandatory heaviness. The band has been successful thanks to its mixture of primitive and heavy death metal at Possessed / Master / Celtic Frost and gore sounds, hitherto uncommon in death metal. Later, in 1990, the group will deliver its best delivery, Cause Of Death , which combines all the elements of Slowly We Rot , but by marrying them much better (the presence of James Murphy is certainly not foreign there). Obituary then chained the albums without really evolving. Their 1992 album The End Complete became one of the biggest sales of Roadrunner Records (when they had the top death and thrash), and the best-selling death metal album ever. The group split up in 1997, with members preferring to devote themselves to their respective families and work. Only Donald Tardy (beater) will play again, holding his position in Andrew WK. In 2004, at a concert by Andrew WK, in florid, other members of Obituary were present, and Andrew, a fan of the band, offered to stage to play old songs. After this experience, the band realized how much they liked playing death metal, and re-formed for the greatest happiness of fans. The album Frozen In Time was released in 2005. Obituary released Xecutioner's Return in 2007 with Ralph Santolla as solo guitarist and replacement for Allen West. On June 30, 2009, Darkest Day released the band's eighth album. Since 2010, Frank Watkins has left the band, Terry Butler (ex-Six Feet Under) replaces him. In 2012 Kenny Andrews joined the formation as second guitarist. In 2013, a little surprise, Obituary launched a crowdfunding campaign to fund his next album, after some delays the album released at the end of 2014, it was named Inked in Blood and was distributed by Relapse Records, in the wake of which the Americans launched a world tour. In 2015 they share the Deathcrusher Tour poster with Carcass, Napalm Death and Voivoid.
