Oceansize
Biography
Oceansize formed in Manchester in 1998 around Mike Vennart (chant/guitar), Steve Durose (guitar/chant), Gambler (guitar/claviers), Jon Ellis (claviers) and Mark Heron (battery). The early years of the group were marked by the Amputee (1999) and A Very Still Movement (2001) eps which enabled them to be noticed in their region. Ep Relapse in 2002 marked their signature at Beggars' Banquet. In September 2003, their first album Effloresce was released. Revealing a wide spectrum of influences, composed of artists as distinct as Tool , Faith No More , Jane's Addiction (the band's name is a reference to a piece of Nothing's Shocking ), Mogwai or My Bloody Valentine , the band offers compositions in stretched and complex formats, where three guitars intertwine in what critics have often described as a modern nu-prog or prog, although the band rejects this label. After making the roads in Europe and the United States, the band began writing the ep five tracks Music For Nurses released in 2004, then their second album Everyone Into Position, which was released in September 2005. After this album, Jon Ellis decided to leave the band and Steven Hodson took his place as bassist. The band also left Beggars' Banquet to become the first signature of the German label Superball Records. Their third album Frames was released in October 2007. Oceansize returns in autumn 2009 with the box set CD/DVD Feed To Feed (their three albums captured live on their 10th anniversary in October 2008), followed by the EP Home&Minor . After a fourth and final album in 2010 ( Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up ) the band ended the Oceansize adventure in early 2011.
