October Tide

October Tide began in 1995 with a demo tape initiated by the singer of Katatonia Jonas Renkse and one of his friends, guitarist Fred Norrman. This one precedes most of the compositions of Rain Without End . These pieces come from a temporary break from Katatonia that struggles to find a stable line-up at that time. Nevertheless, since 1996 the album of Katatonia , Brave Murder Day , with Mike Akerfeldt of Opeth singing, and Fred Norrman now second guitarist. It is not until 1997 that Rain Without End , the first album of October Tide by VIC Records, is finally released. This is Jonas Renkse's last performance in the growl register. Subsequently, Katatonia changed her musical approach, and it was with Grey Dawn that the October Tide side-project returned to Avant-Garde in 1999, taking advantage of a new break from their mother combo. This second album sees Mårten Hansen (of the band A Canorous Quintet ) replacing Renkse with singing, the latter only devotes himself to guitar and drums. Like the first, this album receives a nice welcome from the public and critics, nevertheless Renkse and Norrman decide not to make a promotion and not to shoot, which helps to preserve the group's confidential aura. This one hasn't released anything since, but remains a safe value in a particularly melodic doom death register, which owes a lot to the founding album Brave Murder Day of Katatonia. Unfortunately, despite repeated requests from fans, neither Renkse nor Norrman plans to revive October Tide. These two albums are rare, however, Peaceville Records Katatonia's label plans to reissue Grey Dawn (released at AvantGarde Music) in 2007. However in 2009, after refusing to release new records for many years, Fred Norrman reacts October Tide with the help of Tobias Netzell (In Mourning) singing, Robin Bergh on drums and Jonas Kjellgren on bass. A Thin Shell was born in autumn 2010.
