Biography

Ophis (Snake in Greek) was originally a side-project by Philipp Kruppa, then drummer of the Hamburg Thrashcore group Rain Of Ashes. With a view to playing a slow and massive music influenced by Samael , Tiamat or My Dying Bride , the one-man-band evolves towards a quartet, but linear-up problems will be right after a few months. In 2002 Kruppa reactivates the project and releases a demo by itself, Empty, Silent And Cold, which is so well received that Ophis becomes a full band again, with a new line-up. Now united, the band won a deal with Cxxt Bxxcher Records and released in 2004 an ep, Nostrae Mortis Signaculum , the success of which allows it to follow the concerts. Ophis returned in 2007 with his debut album, Stream Of Misery and convinced more and more people with Withered Shades in 2010 via Solitude Productions.
