Biography

Pan Sonic is a band formed in Barcelona in 1993 by the Finnish Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väissänen, joined in 1994 by Sami Salo who left the band in the same year. Originally they were called Panasonic but were forced to withdraw an "a" as a result of pressure from the company of the same name. It was when Paul Smith saw one of their concerts in England that he made them sign on his label, Blast First (small) on which the band released its first album, Vakio , as well as Kulma in 1997 and A in 1999. Pan Sonic does not hide his admiration for Suicide , a techno duo formed by Alan Vega and Martin Rev with whom they will make a concert in March 1998, but also for the French composer of concrete music Pierre Henry as well as for the famous band D'indust Einstürzende Neubauten . In 1998 they recorded Endless with Alan Vega (suicide), taking for the occasion the name VVV (in reference to their three surnames). They will do the same in 2005 for the album Resurrection River . In 2003 Pan Sonic performed a duet with the Japanese Merzbow the time of an album. It was in 2007 that the band's latest album, Katodivaihe, was released on the label Blast First (small), distributed in France by Differ-Ant. The same goes for Gravitoni in 2010, who ends the duo race after a farewell tour. Vainio and Väissänen are now moving towards their personal work like Vainio's Vandal EP released on the excellent German label Raster Notton.
