Panzerballett
Biography
Jan Zehrfeld, a classical jazz guitarist, realized in 2004 that he was "always angry at something" and that his music was his outlet. He created Panzerballett to play Jazz-Metal and shape this outlet.
A first album, eponymous, was released in 2005, quickly followed by a tour from which a live shot will be made. The album contains original compositions but also reruns in Jazz-Metal. Panzerballett will keep the usual covers for subsequent albums.
Starke Stüke was released in 2008 and opened the doors of various festivals, both Jazz and Metal. The following year, the Germans published Hart Genossen - From Abba To Zappa , focusing on the rearrangements of titles of the above-mentioned artists.
In 2012 the band released Tank Goodness followed by a live one year later. The drummer of the German Death Technique Obscura joined the formation after the release of Breaking Brain in 2015. Panzerballett unveils in 2017 the album X-Mas Death Jazz, which translates their already crazy music into Christmas songs.
The band did not have a very stable line-up but remained focused on Jan Zehrfeld on solo guitar. Today Panzerballett is also composed of Heiko Jung (bass), Sebastian Lanser (drums - Obscura), Joe Doblhofer (rhythmic guitar), and Alexander von Hagke (saxophone).
Panzerballett is known for his staggered concerts (e.g. Jan Zehrfeld has the habit of wearing a rasta wig in electric cables) and the humor that is clear in his songs (either through the title of these songs or through the lyrics when the band invites a vocalist).
