Pelican

Pelican , composed of Laurent Lebec and Trevor De Brauw (Guitares), Larry Herweg (Battery) and Bryan Herweg (Basse), comes from Chicago and is one of the latest signatures of the Hydrahead Records label. Like most bands on the label, Pelican primarily produces powerful and heavy music. After a first ep noticed in 2001, the band released its first album in 2003, Australasia , composed of long instrumentals drawing its sounds from currents such as Stoner, Sludge, Postcore and Post-Rock. It takes only a few months in Pelican to make a name that then follows in 2005 with an ep, March Into The Sea, with a remix of Angel Tears perpetrated by Justin Broadrick ( Jesu ) before a little month The Fire In Our Thoats Will Beckon The Thaw who is heading towards resolutely more aerial regions. Between the splits with Mono or Playing Enemy, and the tours ( Live in Chicago 06/11/03 ), the Americans returned with City Of Echoes in 2007 playing this time towards a Post-Rock more fiery and expeditious than in the past. Follow a series of eps of all genres with a cover of Pink Mammoth , After The Ceiling Cracked also published in dvd, two splits with These Arms Are Snakes and Young Widows then finally Ephemeral who prefigures Pelican's last opus in 2009: What We All Come To Need which returns to Stoner sounds. 2012 saw a new EP Ataraxia/Taraxis , and the fifth album Forever Becoming the following year, produced by Chris Common, reissued by him in 2019. Disc invested by a new guitarist, Dallas Thomas, instead of Laurent Lebec. A live album ( Arktika ) is released a little later. Three quarters of the band then played with Tusk (during Hardcore/Pelican Grind), whose yeller Jody Minnoch died the same year. This will not prevent the flying quartet from laying the EP The Cliff in 2015. It will take until 2019 to see the arrival of new material, the sixth long format, Nighttime Stories, signing a form of return to sources as well as renewal.
