Pestilence
Biography
Pestilence was formed in the Netherlands in mid-1986 as a group of Thrash Metal. The line-up is based on Patrick Mameli (guitar, singing), Randy Meinhard (guitar), and Marco Foddis (battery). After the first demo Martin van Drunen (bass, singing) joined the band. With two demos, Dysentery (1987) and The Penance (1987), which have an oscillating sound between Possessed and Sepultura, Pestilence signed his first studio album, Malleus Maleficarum , in 1988 at RoadRunner Records. In 1989, the band recorded its second album, Consumer Impulse , which marked a turning point towards Death Metal. Later, singer and bassist Martin van Drunen left the band to join Asphyx. During the recording of their third studio album, Testimony Of The Ancients (1991), they hired Tony Choy, who at the time was a member of Death Technique Cynic . Tony Choy, who is not a permanent member of the band, leaves the band to return to Florida and finally join Atheist. At the same time, Pestilence hired Jeroen Paul Theseseling. Over time, the members of Pestilence turned to another musical genre, mainly the Jazz Fusion that the band incorporated into its Death Metal. The band's fourth and final album, Spheres, was released in 1993. In 1994, RoadRunner released a last CD: a best-of entitled Mind Reflections , composed of tracks from all their previous albums, in addition to a rare track entitled Hatred Within (originally published in the Teutonic Invasion Part II compilations) and six live songs recorded at the Dynamo Open Air Festival in 1992. In 1998, Displeased Records reissued their first album Malleus Maleficarum, which was never originally released in Europe, accompanied by their first demos. A long period of inactivity ended in January 2008 when singer/guitarist Patrick Mameli announced on the Blabbermouth site the return of Pestilence. The new line-up consists of Mameli with singing and guitar, Tony Choy with bass, and Peter Wildoer with drums. In 2008, Pestilence decided to write a new album planned for 2009, alongside Danish producer Jacob Hansen, Resurrection Macabre , this is their first original album since Spheres in 1993. In March Patrick Uterwijk joined the band as second guitarist, however he did not participate in the recording of the new album. In October 2009, Jeroen Paul Theseseling joined Pestilence, replacing Tony Choy on bass. In March 2010, the Dutch announced their first US tour after 16 years of absence, which will begin at Maryland Deathfest on May 30, 2010. The band released a new album entitled Doctrine in April 2011. On February 22, 2012, Patrick Mameli announced the departure of Jeroen Paul Theseseling and Yuma van Eekelen. Thesesseling was replaced by Stephan Fimmers (Necrophagist ) and Van Eekelen by Tim Yeung (Morbid Angel , Divine Heresy , All That Remains , Hate Eternal ). The last opus dated 2013: Obsideo .
