Pixies
Biography
There are stories at the strange and enigmatic beginning ... Charles Thompson's abrupt abandonment of his studies to return to his original Boston to found his rock band is from that one. Accompanied by Joey Santiago, he renamed himself Francis Black and recruited a (which will prove to be "a") bassist thanks to a small announcement. The bassist in question, Kim Deal, presents their drummer, Dave Lovering. We are in 1986, the 4 elves are gathered and the mythical Pixies were born. The band recorded its first demo (known as Purple Tape , 18 songs boxed in 3 days) in 1987 and was spotted and signed on the 4AD label ( Bauhaus ). Come On Pilgrim will be their first EP, quickly continued by their first album Surfer Rosa, which, despite a far outmoded production, gathered raw pop rock tracks of intensity and genius (the "return" to fashion by a certain Where Is My Mind via Fight Club and Placebo is witness to this). But it will take until 1989 for the climax of their talent to be reached: Doolittle , second effort, will profoundly mark the minds even if its success will be only relative. But tensions began to appear in early 1990. Francis Black leaves for a solo tour while Kim Deal forms The Breeders . The Pixies met the same year to give birth to Bossanova , a more accessible album that left some of the critics puzzled but filled the audience. Paradoxically, reports deteriorated within the band and the tour was interrupted for reasons of exhaustion. In 1991 a final opus of the quater, Trompe Le Monde, will be born which will divide the audience. The Pixies are tragically exploding, following a first-part tour of U2, putting an end to the career of a mythical band that will have influenced an entire generation of musicians, Kurt Cobain at the forefront. Francis Black began his solo career while Kim Deal continued his career with The Breeders; But 2004 saw the shadow (or dawn?) of a reformation looming and the spark waking up in my drowsy eye ...
