Biography

Brian Molko (Chant / Guitar) and Steven Olsdal (Basse) meet for the first time in a Luxembourg private high school, and then chance is that they will meet in London a few years later. Passionate about music, they decided to start a rock band in 1994 influenced by bands like The Cure or the Pixies. Brian Molko calls on his friend Steve Hewitt to provide the battery. The latter registered some demos but left for his former band on tour, Breed , and was replaced by Robert Schultzberg. In 1996, Placebo released a first eponymous album very well received by critics and the public on its refreshing side. The voice and undeniably charisma of the androgyne Molko mean that the group is very quickly established as a reference in Pop-Rock matters. Breed did not take off and Molko took the lead with Schultzberg, Steve Hewitt returned to the band at the end of 1996 to compose a new album. In 1998 released the famous Whitout You I'm Nothing , a high-quality album that propelled the band on the international stage. Then two years later, Black Market Music devoted them to the rank of cult group. We must wait until 2003 to see Brian Molko and his band with Sleeping With Ghosts , an album a little more Electro having divided the fans, without harming the band's reputation. Placebo took advantage of the tour that followed the release of the album to record his first live dvd in Paris, Soulmate Never Die , including an anthology duo with Frank Black (Pixies , The Catholic at the time) on Where Is My Mind and a French version of Protect Me From Want I Want , previously unreleased. The following year the trio released a compilation of his singles, Once More With Feeling , with a dvd including all his clips marking the band's ten years of existence. Placebo enjoyed a long break until 2006 when the album Meds was released in the continuity of Sleeping With Ghosts , still in search of Electro sounds. However, early October 2007, Steve Hewitt left the band again for musical differences and was replaced the following year by Steve Forrest of Evaline who played the first games for Placebo on the Meds tour. With a new drummer, the English returned with Battle For The Sun in 2009.
