Primus
Biography
A trio formed in 1984, Primus serves us an indefinable and strange music, a mixture of progressive metal, funk and country music, often accompanied by very funny texts, pastiches of American society. At his head, Les Claypool, crazy singer and genius bassist, accompanied by Larry Lalonde on guitar and Tim Alexander, then Brain on drums. In almost 20 years of career the band has never breathed out and has been able, in its unique musical style, to evolve, giving for example a more important place to the guitar in their latest albums. And while delivering a hard-to-reach music, Primus had a rather important success: Loolapalooza festival in 1993, Woodstock in 1994, grammy award in 1994 for the song Wynona's Big Brown Beaver , composition of the theme of the South Park series in 1997 and participation in the Family Values Tour 99, and several albums certified gold records. For 12 long years they will not release a new album under the label Primus . Twelve years ago they moved away, Les Claypool vivoting beyond in different side musical projects (the very good Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade or the Bucket of Bernie Brains with Bucket Head in particular) and videos (Electric apricot in 2006, docu fiction telling the debunks of a drummer of an unlikely roadies movie band) that he made and in which he played the main role, as for Larry Lalonde, the blond guitarist, he tried with Brian "Brain" Mantia to experimental music in the band No Forcefield from 2000 to 2002 before joining Serj Tankian in concerts for the album "Elect the Dead". But it was in 2010 that everything really started again, with this time neither Brain nor Tim Alexander in the futs, but Jay Lane (the original drummer). They will record a not very interesting Ep (June 2010 Rehearsal , with 4 remixed tracks) and will really start working on a new album ( Green Naugahyde ) that they will start to play in concert during a major world tour in summer 2011.
