Biography

Prong is an institution of the New York scene. Founded in 1986 on the initiative of Tommy Victor (ex-The Misfits , Live Skull ) and Mike Kirkland (ex-damage ), respectively sound engineer and bouncer at CBGB's, the duo is joined by Ted Parsons a few months later. Under this configuration, Prong recorded two albums, Primitive Origins and Force Fed where the trio demonstrated a brutal hardcore but that really contrasted with the rest of the New York scene. Prong's distinctive style attracts the ear of Epic Records, who signed the band in 1989. A year later Beg to Differ comes out. The following year Kirkland left the troupe, replaced by Troy Gregory (ex- Flotsam&Jetsam). Prong makes his fourth album which marks a caesure with the rest of the previous discography. With Prove you Wrong New Yorkers turn to electronics. In 1994, Troy Gregory was replaced by Paul Raven ( Killing Joke ) and a synth, John Bechdel ( Murder Inc., Killing Joke ) joined the band for the recording of Cleansing in which Prong accentuated his immersion in electronics and industrial while maintaining its power. With cult tracks such as "Broken Peace" or "Snap your Fingers, Snap your Neck", the album gets an unprecedented success. This is not the case with Rude Awakening. Shortly after his release, Prong took a break just before going on tour with Type O Negative, Tommy Victor joining Danzig and Parsons, Godflesh. As a result, Victor moved to Los Angeles and went back on the roads with a new line-up that included Dan Laudo (battery), Riggs (guitar), Frank Cavanaugh de Filter (bass) and Rettie (synthes). Prong dissolves after a six-week tour. In 2002, Victor reformed Prong with bass player Brian Perry, drummer Dan Laudo and guitarist Monte Pittman. After a 42-date tour across the states, the band entered the studio to record Scorpio Rising, whose reception remains mixed. Prong returned to sleep between 2002 and 2005, when Laudo took advantage of it to join Big On Mars. He was replaced by Aaron Rossi (Strife, Shelter). Victor and Raven joined Ministry in 2005 on the album and the Rio Grande Blood tour. Relationships with Jourgensen are strengthened with Prong's signature on his 13th Planet label on which the new Power of the Damager album was released in 2007. The machine gradually recovers, it waits until the early 2010s for the Americans to come back with a new album. Carved Into Stone was released in 2012, followed by Running Lives in 2014 and Songs From The Black Hole and X-No Absolutes in 2015 and 2016. It can be said that Prong is not only back but also very productive.
