Q and Not U formed in the summer of 1998 around John Davis, Harris Klahr, Chris Richards and Matt Borlik and began a series of concerts starting in November. However, it is not until 2000 that the group realizes its efforts on record. In April, a single entitled Hot and Informed was released and in October, the first album No Kill No Beep Beep by Dischord.
In May and June 2002, Q and Not U, who became a trio following Borlik's departure at the end of 2001, returned to the Inner Ear studio to record their new production, Different Damage, under the direction of Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara, already present on the first album. After the recording, they began a tour that took them to the four corners of the States, in Europe, Japan and Canada.
In order to have support for their grand tour of the U.S.A. in June 2003, Q and Not U recorded a new single with two tracks "X-Polynation" and "Book of Flags". In the spring of 2004, the band made a few shows across the states in order to prepare the recording of their third album, Power , which took place between June and July under the leadership of Rafael Cohen and Pete Cafarella.
