Queens Of The Stone Age
Biography
Born in 1995 from the ashes of the mythical Kyuss group, the Queens of the Stone Age quickly became a name in the stoner environment. With two ex-kings of the desert at their head, in the person of Josh Man and Nick Olivieri, supplemented by a training with variable geometry that will see passing numbers of talented musicians such as Alfredo Hernandez ( Ex- Kyuss ) Matt Cameron ( Soundgarden ), Mike Johnson ( Dinosaur Jr ), Mark Lanegan ( Screaming Trees ), the Queens Of The Stone Age will experience the success of their first eponymous album, which delivers a less heavy sounder than the one we can meet in Kyuss , faster but lighter , bringing their music into a universe that lurks more towards rock. They then go on tour, and sharpen their superpowerful rock'n'roll and race to band contact such as Bad Religion, Rage Against The Machine, Hole or Smashing Pumpkins. Between two Desert Sessions, QOTSA takes the time to record the huge Rated R , first published in September 2000, then a second time in vinyl edition (2001). It marks a musical turning point for the QOTSA since it is in this album that really takes shape the "sound" of the queens of the Stone Age, which moves away from the Stoner that one knew with Kyuss or Monster Magnet by mixing pop melodies and a very rock energy with the song of Josh Man who instead of the heavy and psyched usual song is made soft and sometimes deluded. About a year later, they returned with Dave Grohl to the drums for Song For The Deaf, which will be the band's first big hit, making them truly take off internationally and sacring them as one of the best US rock bands. In 2004, Josh Man separated from Nick Olivieri, tired of the bassist's excesses, who had been arrested for playing naked on stage. He was replaced by Alain Johannes, guitarist of Eleven's rock band, recruiting Natasha Schneider from the same band. The successor of Song For The Deaf was released in 2005 , titled Lullabies To Paralyze , marked by the return to the line-up of Mark Lanegan and Troy Van Leeuwen , guitarist of A perfect Circle who had already participated in Song For The Deaf . New success for QOTSA , the album is a success praised by the critics. Unable to stay without doing anything, Josh Homme, takes advantage of a break in his schedule to participate in the Eagles of Death Metal project of his friend Jesse Hugues, with whom he turns (he plays drums in particular). He also finds time to marry the singer of The Distillers, and to have a child, but there, he obviously has to calm down a bit and the Queens of the Stone Age then take advantage of it to publish a live album and the corresponding DVD, Over the Years and Through the Woods. However, for Man, paternity leave will only be of short duration and in 2007, QOTSA returned to coal with the album Era Vulgaris , for which Man called on a new bassist, Michael Schuman, and Dean Fertita to keyboards. Less heavy than the usual Queens of the Stone Age sound, Era Vulgaris also has less success. Josh Man remembers the lesson and returns to a more carpented music for ...Like Clockwork . Released in June 2013, QOTSA's sixth album includes Trent Reznor ( Nine Inch Nails ) or Elton John .
