Queensrÿche
Biography
Formed in 1982 on the ashes of the band The Mob , Queensrÿche then composed Geoff Tate singing, Chris de Garmo and Michael Wilton guitars, Eddie Jackson bass and Scott Rockenfeld. The band grew in power to the sons of their first albums, and it was in 1988 with their third, Operation: Mindcrime, that it exploded. This concept album, often cited as a reference in the field, tells the story of a junkie who gets manipulated and transformed into a killer, with brainwashing, by a revolutionary secret organization. Two years later, the Empire album will be released as their biggest commercial card. The band then capitalizes on this success to release a live, Operation: Livecrime and make an appearance at MTV's Unplugged in 1992. Queensrÿche experienced a slight crossing of the desert in the mid-1990s with the explosion of the grunge, and shortly after the release of Hear in the Now Frontier, Chris de Garmo, the band's main composer, decided to leave amicably. The band survived the 2000s and the neo-metal wave, and in 2006, the band announced the release of Operation: Mindcrime II , following their album concept, with Ronnie James Dio as voice off of Dr.X, the great villain of history. Live versions will follow, of course. In 2009, they handed over the cover with a new album concept, American Soldier, and they went to the end of the concept by going to give concerts to American troops on the front, especially in Iraq. In 2012, serious internal dissension led singer Geoff Tate to leave the band. After an amicable arrangement, he renounced the use of the name Queensrÿche for the benefit of the four other members of the group. He was replaced by Todd La Torre, and an eponymous album with the latter was released in the summer of 2013, while Geoff Tate joined the second Metal All Stars tour with Zakk Wylde at the end of 2014.
