Biography

Rage Against The Machine is one of these cult and must-see groups of the 1990s. Indeed, these are the precursors of a style widely taken over nowadays, but very innovative at the time: between Rap and Metal with a Funk hair, the cocktail (Molotov) is effective and touches a very heterogeneous audience. Surrounded by the greatest such as Cypress Hill , Beastie Boys , Suicidal Tendencies , Smashing Pumkins , Beck , Sonic Youth , Pearl Jam and many others, their Hip-Hop side is directly inspired by Public Ennemy and is probably worth their world fame very soon acquired.
Formed in 1991 by Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Bob and Brad Wilk, if "RATM" had not been the initials of their group, it might as well have been the acronym of a new political party. Indeed, much more than a band far from the 1990s, the Rage Against The Machine are known worldwide for their strong political message that they spread through each of their songs. At the same time revolutionary, fighting the American system deemed imperialist and oppressor, but also defenders engaged in multiple causes such as anti-fascism, the fight against censorship (such as their action against the PMRC at one of their concerts in 1993), the cause Mumia-Abu Jamal, that of Tibet, Woman Alive... RATM dares to carry out acts commensurate with their political ideas: in fact, they were censored during the show US Saturday Night Live for "non-respect of the American flag". But one of their greatest victories was probably the shooting of the Sleep Now In The Fire video filmed in front of Wall Street, which forced the stock market to close for the first time since the 1929 Black Thursday! Symbolic figures of this world, Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Peltier... were the models and ideals developed by RATM during their career. Thus, from their first opus, the eponymous of 1992 in Renegades in 2000, Zack de la Rocha always had in his mouth heavy words of meaning. It was he who left the band in October 2000 to give free rein to his Hip-Hop impulses... leaving room for Chris Cornell (ex Soundgarden) in the new band called Audioslave . In 2007 the group reformed for the Coachella, creating the surprise after the disolution of Audioslave, the reasons for this reformation remain unclear, some talking about a political act planned for the 2008 elections. After this concert, the band gradually announces other dates and goes back to the assault of theaters around the world.
