Biography

Ratatat is an American duo composed of Mike Stroud and Evan Mast. Originally from Brooklyn, New York, the two musicians met during their studies but only started working together in 2001 as Cherry. After a name change for Ratatat, the combo released a first album soberly titled Ratatat , recorded in Mike Stroud's apartment on a simple Powerbook. Ratatat's music consists of 3 instruments: guitar, bass and synthesizer. Indeed, no vocal parts are present on this first album. After signing at XL Recordings (which reissues Ratatat at the same time), the band released a first remix album: Ratatat Remixes Vol. 1 , including Jay-Z , Missy Elliott or Kanye West . The second opus, Classics, was born in 2006 after different dates with Mogwai, Daft Punk, Interpol or The Killers. Between 2007 and 2008, Ratatat performed with Martin Bonventre as a pianist, but he left the group for no reason. This does not prevent the duo from chaining the concerts, with great reinforcements of visual effects (including videos created by Evan Mast). LP3 takes off in the middle of 2008, just 1 year after their second remix album Ratatat Remixes Vol. 2, and before some collaborations with Kid Cudi and MGMT. LP4 , the fourth album by Ratatat , is available in June 2010, composed in large parts of sounds from the previous album. Since then, the duo has performed with Vampire Weekend .
