Biography

It all began with an improvised concert in 1983 that saw for the first time, without repetition, the future Red Hot Chili Peppers then dressed up with the surname of "Tony Flow And The Miraculousy Majestic Masters Of Mayhem". This total improvisation still suggests the formula that the group will use throughout its evolution: a funky bass line held by Flea (Michael Balzary), a poetic-energy rap provided by Anthony Kiedis and the rest fluctuating around this base. The success of this first concert and the common alchemy in which they plunged them into it prompts them to retry the experience and they then spin in most Hollywood clubs, always enriching their repertoire over the course of performances and beginning to build a reputation. It was during this period that the gag of the set was born with only a dress protection a sock placed at the level of sex, while the star was stolen from them by strippers performing in the same room as them; This event will follow them throughout their career and they will even take up this anecdote on the cover of the 1988 album "Abbey Road EP" (where they appear dressed in the simplest apparatus on the pedestrian passage made mythical by the Beatles). After the departure of guitarist Hillel Slovakiak and drummer Jack Irons, considering the future of the band as not promising given the "comic" form of its formation, their unsuccessful and fortunately temporary replacement will first see Hillel return for the first "official" album of the band: Freaky Styley in September 1985 (then Martinez official behind the drums). Produced by Georges Clinton Himself, this album is up to their expectations and reflects the band's state of mind at the time: energetic and perfectly crazy; a few funk beads suggest that everything is pretty well off for this Los Angeles band that is already spinning in the United States and has some passages in England and Germany. It is then that friendship pushes Jack Irons back on his decision to break up with this group in which he begins to see a certain interest and the initial formation is then recomposed as a whole. The alchemy that defines them is then fully recreated and it was in September 1987 that the album "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan" appeared, in line with the first opus, which was still as much marked by the funk influences of the band and reflecting fairly honestly the atmosphere that they were able to create during their stage performances. It is in this atmosphere of success and accomplishment of the various projects, while the next album is being prepared, that the drama occurs: on 27 June 1988, Hillel Slovak died of an overdose. This shock destabilizes and appeases (other members of the group also use hard drugs more or less regularly) the rest of the training that dissolves for some time before they resume their activity, without Jack Irons not bearing the memory of the death of his best friend, Anthony and Flea having during their withdrawal realized that their life had to be lived within that group that they had conceived a few years ago. In search of new musicians, they integrate Darren Peligro as drummer and after a moment of doubt when at the young age (18) of the candidate for the six-cord, hire John Frusciante as a permanent member ("Hillel's clone" according to remarks made by Flea). After a few concerts to reinforce the new members in their respective positions, Peligro will finally leave the band for lack of compatibility of his style with the spirit of the band: Chad Smith will then beat for the Peppers. The following years are in comparison with the previous events comparable to a long, quiet river, without pitfalls, seeing the band hang an increasingly global success with "Mother's Milk" in 1989 and, above all, the immense "blood Sugar Sex Magic" in 1991 for many the best album of the band with always this magic formula: energy-spontanety-alchemy perfect. This album will remain for a year in the US charts, his "under the bridge", Give it away among others, will be widely relayed by MTV, at that time all looking like going for the best in the band and for fans. But it was without counting on John's extreme sensitivity that had not come to find in this group a way to play in the stadiums or to get more pay, his integration was for him a new step in his relationship with music, a new stage in his approach to the productive process and that's why as many of the artists the drug took over the music and, with his anger resulting in a split of communication with Anthony and deliberately sloppy performances, he left the band in May 1992, in full tour. Dave Navarro will replace him for 6 years but the combination with the members of the band is not as intense, the recording methods change (all the work is now done in the studio, the technique that Navarro prefers), the band advances in slow motion and for cause Dave Navarro devotes himself mainly to his personal projects, in short the only album that will emerge from this unsuccessful union will be "One Hot Minute" in September 1995, far from the previous performances of the group as a whole (quality, much darker atmosphere, spontaneity gummed by the rigidity of the work in the studio...). During these years of John Frusciante's absence, the latter - swimming in complete doubt as to his life, the music - makes appear two solo albums before regaining a rather stable serenity that leaves room for an enthusiasm that erases all the quarrels, the tensions he knew within the band before his departure, and his reconciliation with Anthony rings the bell of his break with the Red Hot Chile Peppers. The creativity of the entire band is exacerbating in an impressive way, and the album "Californication" from the summer of 1999 is not there to contradict this comment, it is a worldwide success from the moment it was released and it is hard to imagine how the band will be able to go further, in the sense that this album is a kind of result, the members of the band having somehow found what they were looking for in their respective lives, all of which translate into their music. This opus is indeed much more melodic and less energy oriented, as a sign of the fullness recovered, perhaps also of maturity. The latest album is "By the way", colorful, very melodic, disappointing for some and surprising for others in the formula he proposes, he will rank #1 of the charts from his soy in the USA and Europe, showing that the band is not finished with his permanent desire to create, and, to see them on June 15, 2004 at the Parc de Princes, one misimagins what could stop them. The group released in May 2006 Stadium Arcadium . It is a very important album, because it is the first time that the band has made three consecutive albums with the same band, that they release a double album and above all, that they compose as much. Indeed there are 38 songs written but only 28 kept for the double album, although this kind of case happens to each album. After a series of concerts in 2007, the band decided to take a break. On June 6, 2011, after five years without coming out of the album, drummer Chad Smith announced on his Twitter the release on August 29 of the new opus of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, named I'm with You and marked Josh Klinghoffer's arrival as the band's new guitarist. They began their first concerts in Japan at the Summer Sonic Festival on August 7 and 8 in Tokyo and Osaka; then at the Rock in Rio festival on September 24. Other concerts are held in Peru and Colombia. Since then, the Californian band has announced most of its dates for the promotional European tour of the new album, including passages in France, at the Palais omnisports in Paris-Bercy on October 18 and 19, three years after their last concert in the country. For the first French date, that is, on October 18, the 16,000 tickets sold in the space of 5 min, which is relatively rare. Only AC/DC did better. For the promotion of their album the Red Hot Chili Peppers made a mini preview of their concert on the plateau of the Grand Journal de Canal+. They decided to make another date in France, this time at the Stade de France, on June 30, 2012.
