Repulsion
Biography
Considered one of the most important groups of Grindcore, Repulsion formed in 1984 in Flint. Originally, the combo is called Tempter and consists of Matt Olivo, Scott Carlson and Sean Mac Donald, then operating in a Thrash registry near Slayer and Metallica. The addition of Punk sounds was done when Phil Hines (Dissonance) took up the position of drummer and renamed the Ultraviolence group then Genocide , recording a first demo in 1984.
The combo suffered a first shock when Chuck Schuldiner recruited Carlson and Olivo for Death, but the latter returned to Flint to reform Genocide with a new drummer, recording Violent Death in 1985. After a few line-up movements, the group recorded a new Demo but the Repulsion style is already there.
In 1989, Repulsion became a name when Carcass distributed Horrified, a compilation of various American titles, via Necrosis Records. For the occasion, the combo was reshaped with Scott Carlson, Aaron Freeman, Dave Grave and Matt Olivo. The musicians take the opportunity to record 2 demos, Rebirth and Final Demo, as well as a single at Relapse: Excruciation. Unfortunately, Repulsion again threw sponges in 1993, some members playing in various short-term projects and others returning to civilian life. A re-release of Horrified was released in 2003, followed by a DVD from a concert of the same year, while Repulsion resumed in 2008.
