Biography

Reverend bizarre was founded in 1994 in Lohja (Finland) by Sami Hynninen (or "Sir Albert Witchfinder", bass / song), Kimi Kärki (or "Father Peter Vicar", guitars) and Juippi (drums). In 1996 a soberly obscure demo entitled Practice Sessions was released, for the anecdote without singing because the microphones were out of use. Unfortunately, the following year adverse circumstances such as the move from Kärki to Turku, the military obligations of each and the increasing addiction to certain substances contracted by Juippi caused the premature death of the group. Fortunately, in 1998 Sami in turn moved to Turku, and the two witnesses decided on the resurrection of Reverend Bizarre , hiring a new drummer in the person of Jari Pohjonen (or "Mr Earl of Void"), just released from prison. The rehearsals really started in 1999, and a first demo entitled Slice of Doom was recorded in just three days. For the anecdote, the CD will be accompanied by a message from the band deploring the lack of Doom old school scene in his country and self-proclaiming preacher of the church of the Doom, aimed at bringing together all fans of groups of the 80s such as Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Witchfinder General, Trouble, The Obsessed and of course Black Sabbath. From then on, the message will be heard with concerts throughout Europe, in the United States and, cherries on the cake, a deal with Spikefarm Records. It is not until 2002 to see the first album of the band, entitled In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend . He immediately converted a cohort of faithful to the precepts of the Traditional Doom, and the group acquired a status of worship very quickly. In 2003, a second demo was released under the name of You Shall Suffer! and a split with Ritual Steel. But the best is yet to come with the release of Harbinger of Metal, also monumental but considered as a simple EP by the band...despite its 74 minutes. The Finns were very productive the following year with the release of a split with Orodruin, a best of entitled Slice of Doom, a new split with Minotauri this time, and finally a new EP, Return to the Rectory. It was in 2005 that the band definitely sat its popularity with the entry directly in second place of the Finnish charts of the single Slave of Satan, yet lasting more than 20 minutes. This single prefigures Crush the Insects , second album that will come later in the year, and that will divide fans enormously, many thinking that the band is sinking into self-parody. 2006 saw the release of a new EP called Thulsa Doom as well as a split tribute to Pentagram with Mannhai. The band announced the release of three other albums, respecting Songs from the Funreal World, Heavier Than Life and How It Was Meant to Be. But the project aborts when Reverend Bizarre announces his split which will intervene after the release of a single additional album, So Long Suckers, to come for 2007. In the form of a double disc of a duration of more than two hours, this disc will represent the ultimate testimony of an adulated and infinitely respected group. Reverend Bizarre leaves behind him a huge legacy and a status of flagship formation that will remain unrivalled for many, worthy heiress of the spirit of the 80s and totally devoted to his dooming parish.
