Rhapsody
Biography
The Italians of Rhapsody Of Fire, started their career in 1993 with the name Thundercross , led by guitarist/songwriter Luca Turilli and his friend, Alex Staropoli (claviers). After a few tests of singers, they finally recruited Fabio Lione as a vocalist and then formed the hard core of the formation. It was in 1995 that they decided to change their surname to "Rhapsody", the name that they had to extend a "Of Fire" in 2006, for copyright reasons.
After a slight turnover of drummers and bassists, it is today the French Patrice Guers (Inner Visions, Patrick Rondat...) who finds himself at the four-string, and German Alex Holzwarth (a session at Blind Guardian , Angra ...) behind the drums. We can also note the addition of another Frenchman to the combo, Dominique Lourquin, to the rank of session guitarist.
Rhapsody Of Fire self-proclaimed as a "Hollywood metal" band, which is a highly imaginative heavy metal style with influences from both classical and movie BOs as well as from the power/speed metal of the 1980s. The band even crossed the bar of concept albums by devoting all its discography to the sagas of "Enchanted Lands". Imaginary world with its own history, geography and imaginary creatures, like Tolkien's novel, "The Lord of the Rings".
Over time, Rhapsody Of Fire tends to evolve towards compositions closer to an original film tape than a classic heavy metal band. It was in 2004 that the band marked one of the biggest turning points in its career with not only the signature at SPV Records (DIO , Motorhead , Moonspell ...), but above all, with the release of "Symphony of Enchanted Lands II - The Dark Secret", the first episode of a new saga, where the great means were put at the disposal of the group: a Czech Philharmonic Orchestra (the "Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra"), a choir of 50 people but also an extraordinary guest, Christopher Lee in the role of narrator.
After a last album, "T Triumph Or Agony" and a live DVD "Visits From The Enchanted Lands", the band came into conflict with its management due to a cancelled tour problem in South America. The information about the trial is heavily filtered but the group still announced that a seventh opus was being prepared. Meanwhile, Lucas Turilli works on his solo career and has just opened his own recording studio in Trieste, northern Italy.
