Rites Of Spring
Biography
Guy Picciotto (Chant, Guitar) Eddie Janney (Guitare) Michael Fellows (Basse) Brendan Canty (Battery)
Formed in March 1984, Rites Of Spring experienced an ephemeral journey (1984 - 1986) with rare but memorable scenic performances. In the midst of the effervescence of the American hardcore punk scene, the band immediately marks its difference both in the singular texts dealing with personal experiences and feelings as well as their punk borrowed from a certain melancholy. The typical and original music of the quartet was quickly defined as "hardcore emotional" and placed at the base of the first wave emo. In 1985, Rites Of Spring released an eponymous album on Dischord Records recorded at Inner Ear studios and produced by Ian MacKaye (Fugazi , Minor Threat , Embrace , The Evens ). This unique record of Rites Of Spring will have a second birth (CD and K7) in 1987 with the day of the title "Other Way Around" and the 4 compositions of the EP All Through a Life released the same year. In 1991 a reissue named End On End appeared on Dischord, which 10 years later repeated this by remastering the record of 17 tracks. Rites Of Spring split in early 1986. Picciotto, Janney, and Canty then formed One Last Wish with Michael Hampton ( Embrace). The quartet also reshaped a few days later as Happy Go Licky , an experimental live band. A little later, Picciotto and Canty joined Joe Lally and Ian MacKaye to form Fugazi. As for Mike Fellow, he founded Miighty Flashlight.
