Biography

Jason Kemper Sears (chant) climbed RKL (aka Rich Kids on LSD , expression used by a critic who tried to denigrate them at their beginnings) in 1983 in Santa Barbara (California), with the following line up: Vince Peppars (bass), Chris Rest (guitar - Lagwagon), "Alpo" (guitar) and Richard Anthony "Bomer" Manzullo (batterie). Affiliated to the regional 'Nardcore' scene, they participated in the compilation bearing the same title in '84. The same year, their first 7" Beautiful Feeling is published by Mystic Records. The quintet raises the tone in '85 with the LP Keep Laughing . Over the course of the year, two changes occurred within the band: Barry Ward became second guitarist of the combo and Vince Peppars and replaced by Joe Raposo. In 1987 they moved to San Francisco and composed Rock N Roll Nightmare and recorded it at the S.N.M. Studios of their hometown. Alchemy Records the product in '87 (it will be reissued 6 years later by Epitaph).
The following year, they toured Europe and recorded the 22 tracks of Double Live in Berlin: Greatest Hits ('89), followed by Revenge Is A Beautiful Feeling and Mystic Records gathered a compilation of composed songs during the first years of their career.
This followed a black hole of 3 good years during which Sears period left the band and RKL reappeared in 1993 at Epitaph (originally under the name Slang). "Bomer" goes to the microphone and Dave Raun ( Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Good Riddance) takes his place behind the drums to record Reactivated ( During the European tour to promote the opus, "Bomer" leaves the combo and Sears stacks up to finish the scheduled dates. As a result, they entered the studio from July to August to lay their latest studio album Riches to Rags.
Two years later, the group split up and, in a change of position worthy of the soap opera that bears the name of their home town, reshaped the following year under the following line-up: Jason Sears, Chris Flippin (Lagwagon), Chris Rest, Joe Raposo and Boz Rivera ( Mad Caddies). This reformation, however, will lead to nothing if it is not to a VHS ( Still Flailing After All These Beers) and then to a dead end. The 2000s are marked by reissues: Revenge is a Beautiful Feeling then Keep Laughing in 2002 and Still Flailing After All These Beers on DVD a few years later. A tribute to the Californians, entitled For Those About to Trip, was released in 2002.
Finally, it is 10 very black months that fall on the group since Derrick Plourde (who made a quick passage in the training in addition to these services at Lagwagon , Bad Astronaut , The Ataris and Jaws ) committed suicide on 30 March On December 12, 2005, Richard Anthony "Bomer" Manzullo died of a heart attack in his home in Summerland, California. Jason Kemper Sears, for his part, died on 31 January 2006 in Tijuana, Mexico, following a pulmonary embolism caused by Ibogaine treatment while fighting his addiction to alcohol and drugs. One of his last musical appearances was on the Strait Up compilation in tribute to Snot Lynn Strait's singer, as well as his participation in a Mercury Legion album.
