Russian Circles
Biography
Russian Circles is, as its name does not indicate, a trio from Chicago. Not only do they share the same geographical origin as their Pelican comrades but they also evolve in an angry Post-Rock with Post-Hardcore contours. Mike Sullivan (Guitare), Dave Turncrantz (Battery) and Colin DeKuiper (Basse) released their first eponymous EP in 2004 evoking the beginnings of Chicago's volatiles with brilliance. Also followed the first album, Enter in 2006, in the same vein. In 2008, under a new line-up and a new musical orientation, the band left a large place on its atmospheric side with Station at Suicide Squeeze Records, now laying Rock bases with the support of a new bassist, Brian Cook ( These Arms Are Snakes, with whom the trio recorded a split in 2008, Botch ). The band then toured with Tool, Red Sparowes and Minus The Bear. Geneva takes on the longer format in October 2009 and continues to explore the ethereal side of Russian Circles' new sound. Empros came to Sargent House in 2011 and appears as Geneva's logical continuity. Two years later, Memorial's birth band still at Sargent House, including a feature with singer Chelsea Wolfe. In 2016, the trio returned with Guidance , a little more aerial in its intentions, then in a form of regularity imperturbable in 2019 with Blood Year , this time incorporating more metal plans. The eighth album Gnosis is part of a logical suite three years later, still recorded by Kurt Ballou ( Converge ).
