Saint Vitus
Biography
Saint Vitus , a cursed pioneer, too often forgotten, is among the very first formations of Doom in history, and remains a major source of inspiration for a myriad of other groups. Trained in 1979 in Los Angeles (USA) by Scott Reagers (song), Dave Chandler (guitar), Mark Adams (bass) and Armando Acosta (drums) under the name Tyrant, the band quickly opted for the patronymic of Saint Vitus, with reference to the patron saint of the dancers but also to the frenetic dance disease which also bears this name. It is, however, necessary to wait until 1984 and a deal with SST so that a first eponymous album does not appear, an album which, although raised to the rank of classic of the traditional Doom, hardly provokes any reaction at the time of its release. The band did not give up and continued the following year with a new album, Hallow's Victim, and an EP, The Walking Dead. But nothing does, still no shadow of a reaction, no crowd at the concerts and no media coverage either. Reagers then chose to leave the band, and he was replaced by the legendary Scott "Wino" Weinrich, escaped from The Obsessed for the occasion, another major Doom formation that was still in its infancy in 1985. It was two years later that the band released what would remain as its masterpiece, Born Too Late , a little wonder sabbath ienne who over time acquired the status of the Doom's fundamental work, although having been once again squandered by the public at its release. The combo then releases a new EP, ironically titled Thirsty And Miserable and containing, something rare for a Doom band, a cover of the same name of Black Flag's mythical punks. Just a few months later, a new opus came into being under the title of Mournful Cries, which allowed the band to finally create a core of fans in Europe... and only in Europe, the formation still not getting any respite on its lands. She continued her momentum for another two years by signing her fifth album, soberly titled V in 1989, as well as a live album, with the equally sober title: Live , published on the band's own label, Hellhound Records. Unfortunately, 1991 announces the beginning of the end as Weinrich decides to go and reform The Obsessed after Hellhound Records released a collection of former recordings of the Maryland Formation. This followed a period of floating, only marked by the release of a best of, Heavier Than Thou, in 1991. The band ended up finding a replacement for Wino in the person of Count Raven's frontman, Christian Lindersson. Together, they released in 1993 the album Children of Doom, which is considered by many as the only black spot in their career. Lindersson was quickly fired and Reagers returned, recreating the original line-up of the training. It was in 1995 that this return materialized with the release of Die Healing , new and yet final album since the band decided to throw the sponge shortly afterwards. In 2003, Saint Vitus will meet for a concert with Weinrich singing, along with Macabre and Debris Inc., Chandler's two new projects. This show was immortalized as a DVD, released in 2007. Saint Vitus received the request of the Roadburn to hold a meeting show for its 2009 edition. Banco, the larrons do a few heat concerts and leave for Holland. This performance opens up new possibilities for them, including the Hellfest and a short tour in Europe, but without Armando Acosta who is forced to leave the band because of his health concerns that no longer allow him to play (according to Chandler "by going to a doctor and playing more simply he could have kept the distance, but he refused to do both"). He was replaced by Henry Vazquez, former drummer of Debris Inc. What was only to be a last tour to finally pick up the fruits of the recognition of their hard work past is followed by another tour in Europe and then in the United States. They play the famous Maryland Deathfest , other dates are added and the rumor is that new compositions would be in preparation. Armando Acosta died in 2010. Two years later, the new effort of Vitus was born: Lilie: F-65 (which would be the name of two barbiturates whose production was stopped in the 80s...rock'n'roll forever!). That same year, they were added to the Hellfest poster. The loop is somewhat curled, Saint Vitus is indeed back, ready to show that those are they, the bosses of the doom!
