Thinking, seeing or listening to Samiam is like diving back into the 90s, crazy years of punk rock, when the scene, swollen with second breaths and new desires, exploded under the impulse of its spears (NOFX , Rancid ). Samiam , formed in 88, thus forged his reputation at the heart of this era, at the rhythm of the tours (North America, Australia, Europe, South Africa...) and albums (6 between 1990 and 2000). Inspired by groups from the 80's ( Bad Brains , Minor Threat ), as well as his contemporaries ( Dinosaur Jr , Sonic Youth ), Samiam was never able to lock himself in a carcan, juggling hardcore sounds, punk rock and pop, while always caring to preserve an indie approach to his creation. Supported by the label New Red Archives (Anti Flag , UK Subs ) for its first three efforts (Samiam (1990), Soar (91) and Billy (92)), Californians signed Burning Heart (Refused , Millencolin ) from Clumsy (94), and You are Freaking Me Out (98) and Astray (2000). A short time after the latter's release, the group suddenly folded, after more than 12 years of common life. End of game? It was without counting on the fervour of the audience and tourers who will solicit so much the 5 guys from El Sobrante, that the latter will still tour for 6 years with the paradoxical label of "training supposed to be separated". No album during this time however until September 26 of the year 2006, and its Whatever's Got You Down, released by Burning Heart still. Note that Californians will be in Paris on November 6. Don't miss it.
