Biography

Samothrace is a group of Sludge / Doom founded in 2006 in Lawrence, Kansas, whose name is inspired by an island from Greek mythology, sanctuary of ancient gods. Dylan Desmond (Basse - Bell Witch ), Bryan Spinks (Guitare / Chant) and Renata Castagna (Guitare - Conan ) then recruited Willie Stein to the drums that only remained a few months, then Elijah Hyde, his replacement, with whom they recorded a first demo in 2007. A new drummer, Joe Noel (Wolvhammer , ex-Altar Of Plagues ) is recruited for the recording of the first album Life's Trade , which appeared in 2008 at 20 Buck Spin allowing Samothrace to make a name in the middle of the Sludge / Doom. Between 2008 and 2011, Joe Axler replaced Joe Noel on drums and Renata took a break with the band, replaced by Daniel Nokes (ex-Oroku). She returned in 2012 for the recording of Reverence To Stone in 2012, paved Doom consisting of two titles of 15/20mn each. In 2013, Dorando Hodous replaced Dylan at bass. The group performed at Roadburn 2014, a version of which LP was released the following year. Since then, Monte Mccleery has been the bass player.
