Biography

Saturnus started in 1991 in Copenhagen (Denmark) when Thomas A.G. Jensen (song) began to set up a Death Metal band. Very soon, he met Brian Hansen (bass), but the line-up took some time to stabilize, and the band, at the time called Assesino, was actually formed only in 1993, with Jensen singing, Hansen on drums, Christian Brenner and Kim Sindahl on guitars, and Pouli Choir on drums. Soon after, the team took part in a metal competition, the Judgment Day, finished second and split afterwards, but to reform a little later, with new members. It was at that time that the group chose the name Saturnus . In the following year, the band gradually moved away from the Death to a more Doom sound, and endured some changes in line-up. Despite this, the training began to run around Denmark with local groups, and came out with a self-produced demo. It was at the beginning of 1996 that the click occurred: after a concert with My Dying Bride, the band decided to mix Doom Death and Gothic Metal and found its way, since it would only take one year for it to be signed by Euphonious Records and released its first album, Paradise Belongs To You , which will be a date since today considered one of the best Doom Death albums in history. The formation then began to shoot a lot on its lands, including two memorable concerts: the first of more than 5 hours in a church in the company of a choir made up of about 20 women, the other at the Roskilde Festival in front of a room of 3,000 fans. The band, launched, then recorded an ep, For The Loveless Lovely Nights , which was released in 1998 and is also a great success, the band leaving the Doom Death for a more Gothic Metal sound. After new line-up changes, the band entered Sweet Silence Studios in early 1999 to record a new album under Flemming Rasmussen (the first three Metallica). Martyre finally came out in early 2000 after numerous reports and other constant line-up changes. This new disc is much more oriented Gothic Metal than its predecessors, the group having seemed to distance itself from its Doom roots. It was also at this time that Saturnus gave his first concerts abroad. After a long period of floating, the band released in 2004 a demo consisting of falls, Rehearsal Studio Tracks and started giving concerts again, and finally decided to return to the studio. The result will be the release of Veronika Decisions To Die during 2006 at Firebox Records , a new album of a finally stabilized and resolutely forward-looking formation, which marks a return to the source in compositions, with a sound much more Doom Death than its predecessor.
