Biography

Saul Stacy Williams was born in 1972 during a James Brown concert. The son of a pastor and a teacher, he will soon get involved in words and literature. After graduating from Philosophy he went to New York to undertake comedy studies. He quickly attended the Café Poètes de la Grosse Apple and soon became known in the Slam milieu, a musical genre from the Hip-Hop where poetry is at the centre. In 1996 he won the title 'Nuyorican Poets Cafe's Grand Slam Champion', which honours Slam's best artists. It was in 1998 with the film Slam in which he embodied an amateur prisoner of this type of prose that Saul Williams made himself known on the international stage. The film met with great success among critics by winning the jury's grand prize at the Sundance Festival and the Caméra d'Or in Cannes.
After many collaborations with various Hip-Hop artists (The Fugees , Blackalicious ...) Saul Williams eventually released a first album in 2001 entitled Amethyst Rock Star , under the leadership of Rick Rubin, famous American producer touch-to-all that we no longer present. Three years later Saul Williams released an eponymous album on which we can find Serj Tankian (System of a Down ) and Zak de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine ).
Outside the world of music and cinema Saul Williams is a committed intellectual who occasionally publishes articles in various press reviews such as the New York Times or African Voice. He is also the author of four poetry collections: The Seventh Octave, S/he, Said the Shotgun to the Head, and The Dead Emcee Scrolls.
It came back in 2007 with an album produced by Trent Reznor ( Nine Inch Nails ) and distributed only on the net: The Inevitable Rise&Liberation of Niggytardust! . Following Volcanic Sunlight in 2011 and Martyr Loser King in 2016
