Saxon Shore
Biography
Saxon Shore formed during the winter of 2001 around a duo composed of Matthew Doty (guitar, piano, keyboards, rhodes) and Joshua Tillman ( Fleet Foxes) behind the drums in New York. From the following year they returned to the studio with Josh's brother, Zach Tillman, to lend a hand to bass and record the EP Be A Bright Blue, under Broken Factory Records. Zach later became an integral part of the group. Between 2002 and early 2004 the band toured across the United States with several other members including Jesse Pierce, Joel Votaw and Justin Saxby for bass guitar as well as Erin Berkey and Bethany Olson on keyboards. After Matthew Doty moved to Seattle, he sent Josh the demos of the new titles and this new year was organized around the next effort, Four Months of Darkness, with a fourth member, Matt Stone (claviers). They record, under their new label Burnt Toast Vinyl, the album in Atlanta still keeping their post-rock instrumental at Explosions In The Sky, Caspian, Mogwai and others...
That same year, the Tillman brothers decided to stop with Saxon Shore. Matthew Doty continues the adventure by incorporating into this project the guitarist Oliver Chapoy (Shai Hulud ). In 2005, their first album was re-released under Burnt Toast Vinyl and the new trio released the EP Luck Will Not Save Us From A Jackpot Of Nothing , where the dates appearing as title names are a reference to the beginnings of each composition. Bassist Will Stichter and drummer Stephen Roessner eventually joined the band and five of them prepared the album The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore, produced by Dave Fridmann (Mogwai , Weezer , MGMT ). 4 years later they put back the cover with the latest album, It Doesn't Matter. Since then, everyone has been involved in their other musical projects:
- Matthew Doty ( Midnight Faces, Brightest Feathers)
- Oliver Chapoy ( Warm Ghost, Certain Creatures)
- Stephen Roessner ( Williams Shift, Pleistocene, Small Signals, Soporus)
- Matt Stone (Brightest Feathers)
