
Sham 69
Biography
The story of Sham 69 began in 1976 in Hersham (England), while singer Jimmy Pursey sees a tag "Walton and Hersham" on a wall. Unlike many groups of the time, the combo is composed of members from the English popular class and followed by a skinhead movement (regardless of the political movement). A first single I don That's the same year that Life allows the combo to perform at Top of the Pops and chain with The Adventures od the Hersham Boys. As early as 1979, Sham 69 ended its existence, some time after The Game, their fourth opus. Pursey continues in music through solo albums or collaborations, while Goldstein, Parsons and Tregunna joined The Wanderers or Lords of the New Church. In 1987, Sham 69 reborn and evolved in line-up changes, always led by Jimmy Pursey, recording new records: Volunteer, Free Information, ... while the title "If the Kids are United" is used in a Mc Donalds pub, causing Pursey's anger, or at a Tony Blair ceremony. However, the combo disappeared again in 2006, even though the leader of the beginnings announced that he wanted to continue under this name (we're talking about a different between Pursey and Parsons, the last two members having recorded Tell Us the Truth). Then 2 versions of Sham 69 , led by the two musicians concerned, with more or less changes of members. In 2011, Pursey announced a new Sham 69 with Pursey, Parsons and Tregunna.
