Sheik Anorak
Biography
Under the strange name Sheikh Anorak is the Lyonnais Frank Garcia. A solo project started in 2005, he presents an amalgam of no wave, indie-rock, noise, pop, free jazz, psychedelic rock, centered simply around a guitar and a drums. The idea is to compose "real" songs using loops, themselves created on stage. Sheik Anorak collaborated with Weasel Walter and Mario Rechtern in trio, Colin Webster and Mark Holub, among others. At the same time he shares the scene with God Is my Co-Pilot , XBXRX , Action Beat , MoHa! , Aa , Thank You , NLF3 , Chora , Carla Bozulich and Evangelista , Xiu Xiu , Liturgy , Lydia Lunch , Gutbucket , etc. Before starting solo, Frank Garcia founded the independent label Gaffer Records in 2004, today one of the European references for noise, experimental or improvised music. There are artists such as Mats Gustafsson (saxophonist pillar of the European jazz scene, having shared an album with Sonic Youth), Offonoff (with tips from The Ex, Zu, The Thing, Scorch, etc), MoHa!, or Jazkamer. The guy also played in some bands, such as SoCraTeS, Snow Death, LOUP, or Totale Eclipse. As Sheik Anorak the Lyonnais (located today in Gothenburg, Sweden) has some objects to his credit, including two (or three?) demos/maxis released in K7, and two albums: Day 01 released in 2010 and the latest Keep Your Hands Low, released on CD by Gaffer and S.K. Records (+ vinyl) in 2014. The following year, Sheik Garcia (or Frank Anorak) recorded a long noise/ambient song of about twenty minutes entitled Or , distributed by Poutrage Records and Atypeek, and then in 2016 with the release of his third album Let's Just Bullshit Our Way Through , back on his label Gaffer + Atypeek.
