Biography

Ray Cappo - chant Franklin Rhi - bass Dave DiCenso - drums Supergrass - guitar Sri - guitar
Shelter was born in New York in the early 90s around Ray Cappo (song), Tom Capone (bass, ex-Bold, Quicksand, Handsome), Bill Knapp (battery), Todd Knapp (guitar) and John Porcly (guitar, ex-Youth of Today, Judge, Gorilla Biscuit).
When he left Youth Of Today in the late 1980s, Ray Cappo was looking for a new spiritual identity. Thus, he began to take a serious interest in the Hare-Krishna movement and, after a trip to India, converted to that religion. Wishing to communicate his new ideas, he founded Shelter with friends of the band 76% Uncertain and recorded a first album, Perfection of Desire , in 1990 on the label Revelation Records. Between 1991 and 1992, Shelter recorded two singles, Defense of Reality and Quest For Certainty. The band then toured the United States and Europe, sleeping in temples and taking the opportunity to preach their good word by selling the books of the founder of the sect, AC Bahktivedanta Prabhupada, next to his records and t-shirt.
In 1993, Shelter left Revelation for the label Equal Vision, founded by Cappo, which released the second album, Attaining the Supreme. The New Yorkers then set off for an intensive tour, with Norman Arenas as second guitarist (we'll find him later in Texas Is The Reason ), after which a live performance is recorded at Norwalk's Anthrax.
In August 1995, Shelter entered into a deal with Roadrunner Records on which Mantra was recorded, with Adam Blake (H2O) and Dave DiCenso, and Beyond Planet Earth, two years later. However, not satisfied with the label's work around the two albums, the band left the structure and began recording its fifth album, When 20 Summers Pass, which will be released at Victory.
Although the group still enjoys a high profile in Europe and South America, its popularity in the United States is considerably weakened and internal tensions are beginning to emerge. Tired of Ray Cappo's way of life, Porcell left the band, leaving his former travelling companion to take on the full realization of The Purpose The Passion, released in 2001.
After five years of silence, Shelter resumed service and recorded her latest album, Eternal , in 2006 on the Goodlife Recordings label.
