Shining Nor
Biography
Founded by two escapes from the collective Jaga Jazzist, Shining (not to be confused with the Swedish black metal band of the same name) is today a quintet universally recognized in Norway as one of the most interesting formations in the country. Her essence is above all free jazz, the desire to be totally free, but wants to be so free that she uses only her versatile aspect by forgetting somewhat her precious and essential grammar. His first four records all received a unanimous critical welcome, bringing up the group's writing power and identity. Deploying ties with rock, metal, and of course progressive music, his music is charged with a changing intensity allowing him to juggle easily with all these repositories.
In the course of his career, Shining is increasingly moving away from the sacred walls of jazz, sharing the scene with Enslaved and Keep Of Kalessin on a tour, to such an extent that Grindstone, the band's fourth record, finds itself far from the beginning of the formation, developing the freedom of identity desired. The release of their 5th Blackjazz album in 2010 totally made Shining a Foreguard band of Extreme Metal, notably with the use of Munkeby's grundant voice. That same year Hermansen was replaced by Sagen. Their first live album Live Blackjazz appeared in 2011. One One One, released in 2013, followed the musical direction launched by Blackjazz. In the following years, Lofthus (the only original member left except Munkeby) Løchsen and Kreken all left the band. The first two were replaced by Tobias Ornes Andersen and Eirik Tovsrud Knutsen respectively, while the new bassist has not yet been found. Shining returns in 2015 with International Blackjazz Society, which also has a great success.
