Biography

Sigur Ros comes from Iceland, a country that, despite the small population and its remoteness, has already served us extraordinary artists like Björk. We will now have to count on a newcomer with Sigur Ros. Formed in 1994, this quartet is spotted by Gus Gus and is known with the help of Björk. The band recorded its first album Von in 1997, and then released Vonbrigo (remixes de Von) in 1998, only in Iceland. The band gained a reputation with Agaetis Byrjun, which was born in 1999. 3 years later, ( ) arrives in the bins (parenths, half circle or even blank space, the band remains mysterious about it, the songs of the album do not possess any title).
Radiohead or Godspeed You Black Emperor are not far away but Sigur Ros is comparable to any group. Jonsi Birgisson, a singer and guitarist with the band's bow, plays his songs in Icelandic and Hopelandish, an imaginary language. His pure and androgynous voice is accompanied by non-peer musicians. Georg Holm does not hesitate to trade his mediator to play the drumstick of his bass. Kjarri Sveinsson passes keyboard, flute or guitar with a disconcerting ease; Orri Dyrason is he to the battery which is not so soft that she may seem there. Sigur Ros (Rose Victoire, the name of the sister of the singer born at the same time as the band) imposes himself on the world as a cult group, innovative and unique.
The albums, however, are nothing near the unforgettable stage performances the band gives; accompanied by violins and cello (the Amiina quartet) the group takes us to spheres that few groups can reach. Grandiosis, quite simply. The unique experience of the live is inextricably linked to the listening of the album that follows, an explanation for a "except" chronicle.
In 2005 the band returned with a more pop album, easier access: Takk ("Thank you" in Icelandic).
