Biography

Silverchair starts young, very young, at the age of 15 the Australian trio starts in the footsteps of bands like Nirvana or Pearl Jam with a first album (Frogsump ) that will make them known worldwide. We are then in 1995 and the band already exists since 1992 (under the name The Innocent Criminals), it is under this name that the band will win an Australian demo contest and already starts to have a small fan base. In 1995, after numerous offers the band finally signed on Murmur (under Sony's label) and changed its name (mix between Sliver de Nirvana and Berlin Chair de You Am I ). Very soon after the release of the single Tomorow Silverchair climbs into the Australian charts (top 4 of all times with this single, that is to say), followed by Pure Massacre also N°1 of the charts. The band then released its first album, recorded in a week, which became number one of sales and platinum in a week, it will become even very soon double platinum. The album then invades the rest of the world and will also become platinum in a few months in the USA. The band then started a huge tour and found time to record a new album ( Freak Show ) which was released in 1997. The reviews are better but sales are not up to the predecessor, in 1999 same scheme with Neon Ballroom . The band is gradually changing its style, and is increasingly moving away from the grunge strongly imbued with the tenors of the genre for a more personal style (especially with the contribution of the piano, violin, ...) and much more mature, which is confirmed with their 4th album Diorama released in 2002 which revives its commercial success while keeping very good reviews in the press. Silverchair managed to pass the stage of a young teen band to impose itself as a band with a real talent of composition, yet the members are still young but their career would pale with envy many musicians; We should hear about Silverchair for many more years... It will also be in 2006 for his return with the release of an album after a very long break.
