Biography

Skálmöld is an Icelandic Viking/Falk Metal group founded in August 2009 in Reykjavik. Its name means "Sword Age" and is a reference to the age of Sturlungaöld (Sturlungaöld), a period of internal struggles in Iceland, which lasted about forty years in the 13th century. The band's influences are also on the side of metal bands such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Slayer, Amon Amarth, Ensiferum or Icelandic classical composer Jón Leifs. The lyrics are written by Snæbjörn fully in Icelandic. They are inspired by Nordic mythology and Icelandic sagas. Children's friends, Snæjbjörn Ragnarsson and Björgvin Sigurdðsson, used to playing together in many bands (including Death Metal and Punk) decided in August 2009 to create a new band called Skálmöld. They will be joined by Baldur Ragnarsson, Snæbjörn Ragnarsson, Ráinn Árni Baldvinsson, Gunnar Ben and Jón Geir Jóhannsson. The band signed in November 2010 with the Faroese label Tutl and released its first album, Baldur , initially in Iceland and the Faroe Islands. In April 2011, the signature with the Austrian label Napalm Records, allows Baldur to be re-published and distributed worldwide in the following August. The contract with Napalm Records accelerates the career of the training that takes place at the Wacken Open Air Festival and the Heidenfest Tour 2011. In April 2012, the band began recording its second album Börn Loka, which appeared in October 2012. In November 2013, Skálmöld played a series of concerts with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in the Harpa Hall in Reykjavík. They recorded their first live album, Skálmöld og Sinfóniuhljómsveit Íslands , which was released on CD and DVD at the end of the same year. Very active, the Islanders released Með vættum in 2014.
