Skunk Anansie
Biography
Skunk anansie is an iconic British alternative rock band from the 1990s, which as well as bands like Nirvana , The Smashing Pumpkins or Pearl Jam (and many others), contributed to the musical effervescence of that era. The London quartet is composed of Cass (Richard Lewis) on bass, Ace (Martin Kent) on guitar, Mark Richardson on drums and the very charismatic singer nicknamed "Skin" : black, inveterate feminist, with hallucinating charisma, who could with the same ease scream his text to full lungs as well as interpret songs like diva. The band formed in 1994, and released 3 albums until 2001 that all had strong successes in Europe and the United States. At a time when various forms of grunge or alternative rock were at the top 50, they managed to make a nice place at the top of the charts. With a first album called Paranoid and Sunburnt and tubes like Selling Jesus , I can dream or Weak , they were able to combine typically British pop influences with other more aggressive sounds made in USA. In 1996 they released their second album, Stoosh , which will also be a planetary board. Their last album before their separation in 2001 Post organmic Chill won't sell as much, even if one will notice the band's perceptible efforts to mix other styles with their music like dub or hip hop. Like bands like Rage against the machine, Skunk Anansie helped to bring out an activist and committed rock tinted with a good dose of vitamins, and undeniably made the happiness of quantities of teenagers until early 2000. After the separation Skin will embark on a solo career not frankly successful, just like the other members of the group, with more or less success. Note that their drummer Mark Richardson will join the Feeder group after the death of Jon Lee, the original drummer of the band, until 2009. The four competitors returned in 2009 with a series of concerts for a tour entitled "Greatest hits" before returning to the studio to record their fourth album Wonderlustre released on September 13, 2010.
