Present Slapstick and show their huge influence on the rest of the Chicago punk/emo/ska scene? Nothing simple: list the bands that were born after Slapstick's arrest: Tuesday (emo punk), Colossal (rock inde), The Honor System (emo punk), Alkaline Trio (emo punk), Duvall (emo pop), The Broadways (punk rock), The Lawrence Arms (punk pop) see Less Than Jake (Peter, Slapstick's trombonist joined LTJ for a while after Slapstick's split). What do these eight groups have in common with Slapstick? There is one (or more) Slapstick members in each of these bands (born after Slapstick), and they are all signed on Asian Man Records the label held by Mike Park. The latter quickly became friends with Brendan Kelly (now bassist-singer of The Lawrence Arms) and Dan Adriano (now bassist of Alkaline Trio) since the third Asian Man release is none other than Slapstick's first album (with 200 copies!), Lookit. Slapstick is the sponsor of Asian Man in the United States and the current best ska-punk label owes much of its success to Chicago sextet... Considered by many of its successors ( Mu330 , Mustard Plug , Less Than Jake ) as the group that has most influenced them like Operation Ivy , Slapstick will forever remain as one of the best melodic ska-punk bands. The short existence (1993 - 1996) of the band does not change anything, his last album, kind of compilation / best of / cd of farewell, Slapstick (released in 1997 still on Asian Man) is a pearl of the genre. So it's no wonder to find former Slapstick members in bands like Alkaline Trio, Less Than Jake or The Lawrence Arms. The band's last release is a live video, Reunion , of the last Slapstick concert (meeting show) held on November 23, 1997 in Chicago. And since the opportunity was too good, the DVD should soon be released, once it is not customary, on Asian Man Records, with as a bonus interviews, exclusive songs and many photos.
