Slipknot
Biography
In 1995, a metal band was formed around Shawn Crahan (beater), Anders Colsefini (singer), Paul Gray (bassist), Donnie Steele and Kun Nong (guitarists), five musicians from the Des Moines region of Iowa. Soon Kun was replaced by Josh Brainard. Shawn, having in mind to have three drummers in the band (a lead drummer and two using drumkit to make the band more aggressive musically and visually), leaves his place to Joey Jordison to devote himself to percussion, helped by Anders. It was with this line-up that Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat was registered at the end of 1995. The recording session ended, Slipknot even won a local springboard against Stone Sour, whose singer Corey Taylor impressed them. Donnie was then replaced by Craig Jones, who finally took care of the samples when Mick Thompson arrived as guitarist. M.F.K.R was released at Halloween 1996. In the summer of 1997, Stone Sour and Slipknot met again, and Shawn and Joey took the opportunity to persuade Corey to join them. Anders left the band at the end of a concert at the end of the year, disappointed by the change that relegated him to the background. Sid Wilson, DJ, noticed by Shawn after one of their concerts joined the band some time later. In February 1998, Ross Robinson, a producer of the first Korn, attended a Slipknot concert, and came out quite shambles to take them under his wing.
Chris Fehn became a band percussionist that year. Bizute by the rest of the band, he is forced to watch a scatophile film, filmed and recorded scene that we will hear later at the end of the song Scissors . Six months later, the band began recording a new album, and signed a contract with the Roadrunner Records label. The recording ended, Josh announced his departure, for family reasons, and it was James Root of Stone Sour who replaced him. The line-up hasn't moved since. Slipknot , released in June 1999, with a production by Ross Robinson. It became Roadrunner's first album to become platinum (more than a million records sold in the United States). The band surfs the wave by taking the Ozzfest scene. In 2001 Iowa , well received , more brutal, less original also, and which allows the band to perform enormously on stage. Then in 2002 Slipknot appeared in the film Rollerball playing live track I Am Hated. Later, members dispersed into side projects such as Murderdolls (Joey), Stone Sour (Corey and James) and To My Surprise (Shawn), fuelling rumors of split. The following album, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), produced by Rick Rubin (System Of A Down , ACDC , Slayer , Red Hot Chili Peppers ...), was released in May 2004. It marks a turning point in the band's music, more melodic, also softened, which will be variously appreciated. The band embarks on a world tour, immortalized on a double live titled 9.0: Live , recorded during this Subliminal Verses Tour early 2005 during concerts in Phoenix, Las Vegas, Osaka, Singapore and Tokyo. A second live DVD named Voliminal: Inside The Nine succeeds the Disasterpieces released in 2002. In 2008, after rumours of split, the band returned with a new album (and new masks), titled All Hope Is Gone its release was announced for August 2008. In 2010, bassist Paul Gray was found dead in the room of a hotel in Des Moines, it is Donnie Steele, guitarist at the time of Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. who takes over the post to perform. It took the survivors four years to recover from what is currently the biggest blow in the band's history. Exit Joey Jordison and welcome to Jay Weinberg who takes the place behind the summers on the fifth opus, 5. The Gray Chapter , the band's tribute album to iconic number 2. The tours follow each other and continue more silently for another five years and the release of We Are Not Your Kind in August 2019. The recording of the album and its release did not take place in the best conditions. Chris Fehn, number 3 aka Pornocchio is fired for a silver story and the clown's daughter, Shwan Crahan died only at the age of twenty-two years, in conditions that are not without recalling those of Paul Gray.
