Born in Manchester, UK, the Grimace band released an album at the beginning of the decade before undergoing a line-up change and adopting the surname Sonic Boom Six in April 2002. Their first eponymous demo 6 tracks was released in October of the same year and allowed them to shoot with The Toasters and the King Prawn, but also to play in Manchester with the English sizes: Capdown, Jesse James, Lightyear or Shootin' Goon. The band (then a quintet) draws the attention of the European division of the legendary label of Rob "Bucket" Hingley (The Toasters), Moon Ska Europe - which will become in 2006 Moon Ska World and take a more traditional ska and reggae orientation. With the help of Europe's biggest ska label, Sonic Boom Six gave birth to The Turbo EP in September 2003. At the end of the same month, they were invited by Mike Davies on his famous radio show on BBC Radio 1, The Lock Up. With their growing success gradually, they made the first part of Catch 22 on their English tour before recording EP Sounds To Consume (it will be re-released in 2005 with bonus titles under the title Sounds to Consume: Champion Edition ), and then retake the road alongside Leftöver Crack or The Suicide Machines .
In February '05, they separated from second guitarist Dave Kelly and it was saxophonist Ben Childs who turned into a guitarist to replace him. The quartet thus made its appearance at some festivals (Glastonbury, Festival 23 in Belgium) and its first big tour on the continent, unfortunately canceling certain dates on several occasions. Their first album is written at this time and it is put in a box in early 2006 (in conjunction with the first EP of the side project acoustico-reggae of the whole group: BabyBoom ). Deck Cheese will release it in mid-July, shortly after their second live session at Mike Davies. The Ruff Guide To Genre-Terrarism sees the participation of Itch by The King Blues as well as Nick Horne ( Howard's Alias), Laila's boyfriend who follows them on the road by pushing the song on some tracks.
After several tours in the UK to promote the album (including the Ruff And Ready Tour in February 2007, with The King Blues , Failsafe and Mouthwash ), they returned to the continent for a series of concerts. What was supposed to be a split DVD with Adequate Seven will eventually turn into a solo SB6 DVD since Ruff and Ready (Live in Manchester) released in early May without A7 taking part.
