Biography

Sorcerer is a Swedish band from Epic Doom Metal founded in 1988 by Johnny Hagel (bass), Tommy Karlsson (battery) and Peter Furuid (guitar). They were joined the following year by Anders Engberg (chant) and Mats Liedholm (guitar) and released a first demo, Anno 1503 . It was followed in 1992 by a second, The Inquisition, but despite the positive reception received, the band separated with the departure of Johhny Hagel for Tiamat. In 1995, an eponymous compilation of both demos was to be the ultimate release of Sorcerer. Yet in 2010, a reformation took place around Johnny Hagel and Anders Engberg at the Hammer Of Doom Festival in Germany. The writing of an album began in 2012 with guitarists Kristian Niemann (Demonoid , ex-Therion ) and Peter Hollgren, and drummer Robert Iversen. We must wait until 2015 to see the release of In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross, quickly followed by the EP Black. Robert Iversen left Sorcerer in 2017 for musical divergence, replaced by Lars Sköld (Tiamat , Atavarium ) for the recording of The Crowning Of The Fire King , then Richard Eversand, who had already played with the band between 1991 and 1992.
