Star One
Biography
2001. Arjen A. Lucassen , brain behind the one-man-band Ayreon , is secretly preparing a new project with Bruce Dickinson (singer of Iron Maiden ), the mutli-instrumentalist takes charge of the music and vocalist of the lyrics. However, after the Dutch mentioned the existence on the Internet, Dickinson's manager had the project cancelled. Instead of scrapping the tracks already composed, Lucassen adds his own lyrics (each song refers to a S-F movie) and creates a new band: Star One . He is surrounded by Ed Warby (drum – Gorefest , Ayreon ), Peter Vink (bass – HDK ), and Lucassen is responsible for guitars, keyboards, and several other additional instruments. In singing, he uses the services of no less than four cadors, to create different characters to make the texts live, as well as to be able with live choirs and make the ensemble epic. Russel Allen ( Symphony X , Adrenaline Mob ), Floor Jansen (ex After Forever , ex ReVamp , Nightwish ), Damian Wilson (ex Threshold , Headspace ), and Dan Swanö ( Nightingale , Edge Of Sanity ) answer the call. The album Space Metal was released in 2002, and the band embarked on a tour that would be immortalized by a Live On Earth for which the band was joined by Joost van der Broek (ex After Forever , ex ReVamp ) on keyboards. More news for six years, Arjen Lucassen being occupied on other fronts. Then, in 2009, he announced that his next release would be another Star One album. With the same line-up, Victims Of The Modern Age was released in 2010. Always based on science fiction films, this time the lyrics are inspired by films taking place on Earth, not in space.
