Strike Anywhere
Biography
Thomas Barnett: Song Matt Sherwood: Guitar Matt Smith: Guitar Garth Petrie: Bass Eric Kane: Battery
It is the city of Richmond that saw the birth in 1999 Strike Anywhere, with Thomas Barnett, a former singer, belonging to the Inquisition group, who had, among other things, opened and democratized this style in which today Strike Anywhere operates, namely a melodic hardcore pester. On guitars are Matt Sherwood and Smith, Garth Petrie on bass and Eric Kane on drums. It will not take long to see the band's first EP come: Chorus Of One , released at Red-Leader (Marathon , De La Hoya ,...), a East Coast label, marking the spirits by the aggressiveness, speed and power of Thomas Barnett's voice. There followed another play, the EP Antidote / Asleep, which later came out at Fat Wreck Chords again proving that the quintet is endowed with great talent and that they were going to do very badly.
A growing reputation, and that's how Strike Anywhere ends up signing at Jade Tree Records (Lifetime , Ester Drang ,...), at the end of 2000 to offer us their first album. 2001, serious business begins and exits Change Is A Sound , recorded under Brian McTernan's control. The style hasn't really evolved since the EPs were released, except that we are in the presence of an even greater virulance, of a tempo that gets bogged down, of a heartbreaking voice, in short, of an album without any real flaw, treating with brilliance all the subjects yet quite recurent in the middle of the Punk. Nothing better to start a great career. The album is popular worldwide.
Rebelotte in 2003 with Exit English , who will also have a great success. A cake keeping the same formula if it is not a tempo that will lose much intensity and will be greatly criticized by some. The band continues to grow in esteem and make a difference, as this popularity plays an enormous part in the fact that the band wants to be very integrated into the punk movement, going so far as to distribute legally and free of charge their two albums on the internet, and participating in organizations or demonstrations fighting for different causes, such as the fight against George Bush and his war.
Low profile at the output level until 2005, which will mark the release of a compilation of Faces B, namely To Live In Discontent thus unofficially marking their departure from Jade Tree Records. This compilation will include their first two EPs. The band actually ends up leaving JadeTree Records and will sign at the end of 2005 at the not-less known Fat Wreck Chords, and to celebrate all this, an album is released in early 2006, still under the direction of McTernan. In the wake, a European tour is announced for November / December.
